Dining at The West Hill Wine Bar with MPP Mitzie Hunter

I recently went to a great restaurant in Scarborough-Guildwood with our new MPP, Mitzie Hunter. The restaurant was a pleasant surprise in a plaza at Manse and Kingston Road. TheWest Hill Wine Bar is an unassuming space, but there is nothing unassuming about the ambiance and decadently delicious food offerings!

After a warm and friendly greeting by Mo (one of the many servers who helped make our dining experience great), as well as the owner, Canada’s Top Chef Chris, we were seated at our table by the window in comfortable surroundings. As nice as the window view was, we did catch ourselves looking with envy at the warm fireplace in the middle of the restaurant—note to self: next time make reservations to sit in front of the fireplace!

We began with the usual bread restaurants typically serve. However, what made this a delicious surprise was the fresh garlic roasted in its skin, which we spread on top on the thinly sliced bread. Wow, the flavour of the smooth garlic on the thinly slice bread was divine! We then began our dining experience with the deconstructed Caesar salad (Romaine lettuce wrapped with prosciutto, anchovies, thinly sliced Parmesan cheese and a creamy smooth dressing that had a bit of a kick from something I couldn’t figure out! It was definitely very different from the usual Caesar dressing! We also enjoyed tiger shrimp deep-fried in a wrapped noodle—pure heaven! Then I had the 45-day aged tenderloin done a perfect medium rare. It melted in my mouth like butter!

What a hidden jewel in Scarborough—exceptional food at an incredible price. Our server Dorothy mentioned they have a Sunday Brunch, which I will definitely be back to try!
