Wins Hearts and Minds in Washington, D.C.

Toronto, ON, July 6, 2009 – When Toronto food entrepreneur Nadine Spencer traveled to Washington, D.C. recently to demonstrate her wildly popular Q Gourmet Smokey Barbecue cooking sauce at the Canadian Embassy, little could she imagine what would happen next. Her sauce would soon find its way into the White House, now occupied by the most discerning barbecue lover ever to sit in the Oval Office.

But that’s exactly what occurred when Spencer, president of Toronto’s Q Gourmet Inc., prepared a taste of her magical barbecue sauce for White House Executive Guest Chef and Food Network star Guy Mitchell. “This sauce has incredible flavor,” Mitchell told Spencer at the Embassy demonstration. “We’d like to use it for tonight’s dinner. It is by far the best sauce on earth!”
While the comments of the Barbecue Lover in Chief are not known, Spencer said that famed chef Mitchell’s praise is “Just another milestone in Smokey Barbecue’s rise into international prominence.” Co-created by Toronto-based Spencer and Ray Bear, Halifax’s most prominent chef and owner of the innovative restaurant bearing his name, Smokey Barbecue is “comforting and adventurous at the same time.” It contains such world-class ingredients as aged Balsamic vinegar and enhances and refines such dishes as pulled pork, grilled chicken, salmon and short ribs both as a marinade, dip or sauce. It is all natural and fat free. (It is also available in Smokey Mango and Passionfruit Mustard).

“The sauces are made with such premium ingredients they can stand up to the same standards in my restaurant,” Chef Bear explains. “This was the goal Nadine had for the sauce when she brought the idea to me—and we have definitely achieved it.”

Although Canada and barbecue are not notably synonymous, the excellence of Smokey Barbecue has earned it plaudits from numerous other Super Chefs in addition to Guy Mitchell. Chicago’s internationally famous Charlie Trotter carries it in his retail outlet.

Other Canadian admirers of Smokey Barbecue include Chef Mark McEwan who is stocking it at McEwan, his giant new Toronto gourmet supermarket. It is also available at the legendary Pusateri’s, the exclusive Summerhill Market and conveniently online at Sears.ca
